Hawaii

Hawaii hadn't exactly been on my bucket list, but when I had to go to Orlando Florida, which was right at the opposite side of Perth, I didn't think twice:  A round-the-world ticket seemed more than justified. I.  got a ticket with  American Airlines, and they didn't charge extra for a stop in Honolulu :-) From there I got a small plane to the Big Island of Hawaii. I knew I wanted to ride a bike. This much was clear. But, take my own or not .. that was the question. In the end, I decided to not take my own bike (that would not have been for free) and instead  get a rental bike on site. It'd been about 8 years since the last long distance trip on a bicycle, and the Big Island doesn't even sport long distances. But, due to either my advanced age or just the lack of practice, or the rental bike  that just didn't fit me quite as well as my own,  it turned out to be a major challenge. Nevertheless, it was amazingly beautiful, but I have to admit that I spent the majority of the trip in a Tibetan monastery on the south coast of the island, and I didn't end up cycling so much. Unfortunately, I didn't take any pictures of the monastery. On a positive note, I ended up taking  a brief trip  to Kauai Island, in the far North East. Even if not much more, at least I got a day track done on Kauai, and that was certainly a day to remember.
